Rumors are strong that U2 is coming to Manila later this year. But what’s really certain to happen now is U23D’s showing at IMAX theater in SM Mall of Asia and SM D-Cinema at SM North Edsa. But if ever U2’s concert will push through, how much is U2’s Concert in Manila worth? How much are you willing to shell out to see Bono and the rest of the band perform live?

Twenty-two Grammy Awards since 1988, seven BRIT Awards where 5 are for Best International Group , 14 Meteor Awards from Ireland and more awards from AMA, MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards, Q Awards, Juno, NME and Golden Globe awards plus being at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. The Rolling Stone Magazine also ranked them 22nd on their list of 100 greatest artists of all time. Those are awards and recognition that U2 really deserves. No one can argue about that.

Aside from the awards, for the record, U2’s concert tours in several areas of Europe, North America and other parts of the world are all sold out. The band has also sold more than 170 million albums worldwide.

There could be a lot of factors to consider on how they will put up the ticket prices for U2’s concert–part of which could be the talent fee, rent for the venue, the place where they will stay, the number of songs the band will do, the cost for getting in here, and many others.

If you come to think of it, probably most of U2’s followers come from Generation X and Y, or whatever you call those who where there from the time of U2’s formation and rise to stardom. These people are now professionals while some could have gone to early retirement. They are those who has the capacity to buy concert tickets in an instant or let’s just say they can get a good concert seat if they want to.

In previous concert tours of U2 abroad, there were cases that their concert tickets were auctioned. Some seats were priced at $150, $ 300 and up. Tickets were also auctioned at Ebay for $1000 for their show.

On the other hand, there were people in the Philippines who are willing to shell out 10 grands, Php 30 000 or more.

Considering that the Philippines is a developing country (still), it is surprising for some that there are people who are really willing to spend that much just to see their idols perform live. Anyway, it is very seldom they go here and perform live in front of their fans.

But for me, I will not be surprised if that’s how expensive their concert will be. Remember Beyonce’s concert in Manila where front seat SVIP tickets almost cost 20,000 pesos?

Considering that a lot of concerts were held and about to be held here, a general admission ticket to U2’s concert in Manila would be enough for me. By that time I probably have my own job but with lots of concerts and events happening in Manila, I’ll also try to work on my budget to accommodate and see those. It also depends on the venue. For me, Araneta will be better as compared to the open fields in Taguig but I guess the big dome can’t accommodate thousands of fans who wanna see them.

So for you, how much is their concert worth? How much are you willing to shell out to see and hear Bono and the rest of the band as they perform their hits live?
