If you noticed, I haven’t made any blog post within this week. Honestly, I was so busy at work (yes I am working) and for doing my presentation for the Asian Business Expo 2008 held at the SMX Convention Center last November 29, 2009. I was invited to talk about blogging: on how to make an effective blog, or specifically about the Elements of An Effective Blog.
As you know, I’ve been regularly blogging for over a year now and as a way of helping out those who are just starting to blog or those who are interested to know more about blogging, I decided to join and talk about what I am also doing.
If you weren’t at the event but interested to know more about what I spoke about, read through this blog post. I am also attaching my presentation so you can take a look at it and as well help those who were present at the event but did not take down notes. =D
So what makes an effective blog? What are the Elements of An Effective Blog?
1. Personality – Make your blog different or shall I say, differentiate. Find a niche and focus on it. There are a lot of blogs out there, millions I believe, and all you need to do is stand out. What makes it easier for you to be successful is by doing what you are good at or by blogging about what you really like doing (your hobby, favorite artists, etc). This blog could be an example. I should have been blogging about entertainment, but then, I decided to focus about music and it is because I love music and very much interested in it. Second, assess yourself and your blog. Do the SWOT Analysis and identify yourself and your blog’s strengths and weaknesses while also assesing the oppurtunities and threats waiting out there.
2. Content – good quality content makes a blog effective. Your blog’s content include the title and it’s body. Make the title of your blog post catchy and interesting. Coming up with a good title can even make your post appear on the first page of search engine results or SERPS. You also have to make sure that your blog post’s body or the main content (the soul of the blog post) is meaningful, simple, accurate, not too lengthy, and with correct grammar and syntax.
3. Visual Appeal – Once you already found a niche, come up with a good theme for your blog. You invest in a good design and create an ambiance, a look, or feel for your readers to easily perceive what the blog is all about. A perfect example for this would be AboutMyRecovery.com. As you’ll notice, even by just looking at the site’s master head, you can say that this blog focuses on parenting or family matters. Also consider the location of ads, widgets, and other blog components and place them within your blog properly and strategically.
4. Interactivity – Make your blog interactive and build a connection and good relationship with your readers by allowing them to comment or even easily contact you. Be open for suggestions, comments and criticisms. And, don’t forget to respond.
5. Blogger – Be an effective blogger. Know your limitations as a blogger. Be consistent, persistent, credible and reliable.
