Somedaydream and Mobbstarr Mashes Up Hits “Delivery Boys” and “Eargasmic”

If we’ll talk of a brand new flavor and sound to OPM, no doubt Somedaydream was able to bring it in 2011. I was actually amazed by the time when I found out that the music I was listening to is not a foreign song at all (as I initially thought) but rather a song done by a local artist.

Rez Toledo is the man behind Somedaydream. As new as the music Rez has came up with is the genre that Somedaydream is falling into what they call “synthpop” which is synonymous to electro or technopop that started way back in the 80s. It’s a good thing that our local artists have learned to adapt it in the recent years and they’ve been doing a really good job. Listen to “Hey, Daydreamer” and you’ll agree in what I’m saying. When I saw Rez on TV for the first time, I even assumed his music is KPOP but I was proven wrong.

Same as Somedaydream, way back in 2002, Dice & K9, known as Mobbstarr today, was very successful too in bringing local hip-hop and rap music to a new heights. This made the group receive various nominations and awards for their hits and albums for the past years. Who would never forget their hit “Itsumo” which was a very popular song during its time. With the kind of songs and music videos the group was able to came up with, I can conclude they are one of the local groups who are very much active in experimenting with their music and they are one of those that made it good enough. I won’t contest if they deserve to be the Philippines hip-hop royalty.

Among the previous mash-ups, Somedaydream and Mobbstarr are very compatible to be paired. They both sound very modern and their fans will surely love what they’ve came up with– “Delivery Boys” by Somedaydream and “Eargasmic” by Mobbstarr. Overall, I liked the mash-up. The melody and lyrics are catchy but could be a little tricky as well where it went to the point the leads went a little off-key. I expected it to be really eargasmic but there is something missing which I can’t exactly tell what it was, maybe doing a cleaner version with more techno sound could do the trick. For me, Somedaydream has taken over the collaboration. A team-up with groups like Technyromantics for a digital music feel or even Pedicab for something techno-rock.
