After their successful “Procrastinator“, Sandwich band comes with this new single, “Betamax“, which is hitting the top spots in our local charts today.
Betamax, from the album <S> Marks the Spot, gives honor to the Golden 70’s and 80’s era of Filipino Music. If David Cook weren’t around, this song could’ve gone much hotter.
Anyway, listening to the song makes me reminisce about the past, the days when life is simpler and less complicated. This also makes me ask myself, “What if there is really no Myx, MTV, gadgets like mp3 players, etc? What if Betamax and VHS tapes were still popular, will piracy be not that rampant?” There’s one more thing you should know about it: the more you listen to it, the more you want to hear it. Though you would want it to your earbuds, its music video is not that satisfying. My imagination actually expected more.
Sandwich, composed of Raimund Marasigan (vocals), Diego Castillo (guitars), Mike Dizon (drums), Myrene Academia (bass) and Mong Alcaraz (guitars), continues to rock followers through their new album. If you’re a fan and about-to-be-a-fan, then you should not dare miss listening to “Betamax” and other songs found in their new album.

Sandwich – Betamax Lyrics
Wala pa nung myx wala pa nung MTV
Wala pa nung internet
Wala pa nung ipod o mp3
Wala pa nung cable
Wala pa nung cellphone
Wala pa ring cd o dvd
Meron lang betamax
Sa jingle magazine
Natutong mag gitara
Sinifra ang mga kanta
Sa cassettte at plaka
Mula sa himig ni Pepe Smith
Mag blues si Wally Gonzales
Lumaki sa layaw ni Mike Hanopol
Bumalik ang kwago ni Bosyo
Kamusta mula sa Maria Cafra
Umistambay si Heber
Sa bahay ni Gary Granada
Nagbago ang lumad ni Joey Ayala
Nagreklamo si Chikoy Pura
Sa balita ng Asin
Ang anak ni ka Freddie
Kinontra ni Edu Abraham
Dumibidoo ang Apo Hiking
Mga kababayan ni Francis M
Beh buti nga sa Hotdog
Nosibalasi Sampaguita
Wala pa nung MYX wala pa nung MTV
Wala pa nung internet
Wala pa nung ipod o mp3
Wala pa nung cable
Wala pa nung cellphone
Wala pa ring cd o dvd
Meron lang betamax
Sa jingle magazine
Natutong mag gitara
Sinifra ang mga kanta
Sa cassettte at plaka
Ipagpatuloy ang daloy ng alon
Ipagpatuloy ang daloy ng alon
Ipagpatuloy ang daloy ng alon
Ipagpatuloy
Padayon
Baby baby Rico J
Musikahan ni Ryan Ryan
Umiskul bukol kay Tito Vic and Joey
Sumayaw sa VST
Humataw kay Gary V
Bumilad sa ballad ni Martin Nievera
Request sa dj ni Sharon Cuneta
Nangako sayo si Rey Valera
Salamat sa the Dawn
Ang tatay ko, si Jack Sikat
Disyembre ni Binky Lampano
Nangarap ang Identity crisis
Wag kalimutan ang Wuds
Namatay sa ingay ng Dead Ends
Never meant to be Betrayed
Sa XB, NU at Club Dredd
Wala pa nung MYX wala pa nung MTV
Wala pa nung internet
Wala pa nung ipod o mp3
Wala pa nung cable
Wala pa nung cellphone
Wala pa ring cd o dvd
Meron lang betamax
Sa jingle magazine
Natutong mag gitara
Sinifra ang mga kanta
Sa cassettte at plaka
Ipagpatuloy ang daloy ng alon
Ipagpatuloy ang daloy ng alon
Ipagpatuloy ang daloy ng alon
Ipagpatuloy
Padayon (4x)

Just surfing thru. Great blog!
Raimund Marasigan is one of the most prolific songwriters and the most versatile music artists of our time… and Sandwich is one of the best and the most respected bands nowadays.
With the iconic status of the Eheads, one would think that it would be very hard for the ex members to establish a new identity for themselves. But Rheims proved it wrong… Raimund Marasigan is Raimund Marasigan.. even just a few years after the break-up… idol talaga.
Betamax reminds me of the Billy Joel’s Song “We Didn’t Start the Fire”…but with a very Filipino concept and with a Juan Dela Cruz-sque appeal… opinion lang..heheh.. An ode to some of the musical icons that started or flourished before the digital age.
baket wala ang ehaeads sa lyrics?
ang galing galing ng sandwich!!!!!!!!!

ang lupit ng sandwich!!!!
naintriga aq sa line na toh: “Never meant to be Betrayed…Sa XB, NU at Club Dredd” ..di ba sa Club Dredd nag-start ang eraserheads? dun cla tumtugtog b4 cla sumikat…marami clang awards from NU., tapos marami na aqng articles na nabasa na accdg. to ely, ang reason kng bkit sya humiwalay sa e’heads ay dahil “he felt he was betrayed” dahil nga d pnakinggan ng manager at 3 other members ng heads ung reason nya kng bkit sya na-late sa pinaka-last na gig nla.. mas pinaniwalaan nla ung road mgr kesa sa kanya…and his bandmates gave a cold shoulder to him durng dat time na kinasama tlga ng loob ni ely..ska lahat kc ng na-mention sa betamax, mga sikat at nag-iwan ng matinding marka sa opm.. kya d malabo na isama ang eheads s song na toh.,and we all know dat eraserheads, until now, is one of da most influential icon in filipino music industry! since c raimund ang nag-compose ng song, nahiya lng cguro sya banggitin ang eraserheads kc part sya ng heads..un nga kaya ibg sabhin ng line na “Never meant to be Betrayed…Sa XB, NU at Club Dredd” sa song na betamax, or hinanapan q lng ng meaning? hehe! rock on eraserheads! forever fan nyo aq!!!
hehehe… never meant to be betrayed… hmm…
kung papansinin mo ang lyrics eh connected ito sa mga kanta ng mga band.
like “Lumaki sa layaw ni Mike Hanopol” sa kanta Mike Hanopol na “Laki sa Layaw”
in the case of the band “Betrayed” meron silang kanta na “Never Meant to be this Way” so dun nanggaling ang lyrics…
iloveyou raims!!!
