The remaining three contestants in season 7 of American Idol were given triple chance to to make it to the upcoming finale next week as they serenade the audience with three songs each.
During the first round, contestants sang songs picked by the judges. Paula chose “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel and gave it to David Archuleta while Randy let Syesha Mercado pick her favorite artist who happened to be Alicia Keys and sang “If I Ain’t Got You“. On the other hand, Simon let David Cook sing “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face“. At the end of the performance, David Cook was declared a winner by Simon, Randy put Syesha on the third, and Paula seemed to be moved by Archuleta’s “pure and stunning performance.”
For the second round, the three finalists had the chance to select their song–Archuleta sang Chris Brown’s “With You“, Syesha had “Fever” by Peggy Lee, and David Cook did his version of Switchfoot’s “Dare You To Move“. It seemed the first round was far better for the judges which made Simon say, “I think all three of you had an okay middle round.”
The third and final round was more intense as the two Davids made their fans scream for them. For this round, songs were picked by the producers. The younger David sang “Longer” which is a Dan Fogelberg original. Though Archuleta’s fans had a profound response after his performance, Syesha had a good one when she did Gia Farrell’s “Hit Me Up“. The chance to make it to the finale is clearer when David Cook sang his version of Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” which made hard-to-please Simon Cowell to say “David Cook wins the night” and sweet judge Paula Abdul to say “See you in the finals!”
The American Idol finale will be a two-night event to be held on May 20 and 21 at the Nokia Theater L.A.
