A Twist of “Neon Lights” and “Manila” from Rico Blanco and Amber Davis
![]() |
Neon Lights was something fresh and new from Rico Blanco. On the other hand, Amber Davis’ has came up with what I can consider as one of the best renditions of the song “Manila”. And what happens when the two mashes up these two songs? Nothing else but a more refreshing music.
Who will not know Rico Blanco? He has made a mark in the local music industry and been here for a very long while yet his music never gets old and continues to evolve: from being part of a popular local band Rivermaya up to his journey as a solo artist. He proved to be excellent in his craft for being recognized even outside the country and his single “Neon Lights” making it to the music charts outside the Philippines, particularly in Hong Kong. Rico has even made it more to mainstream media through his appearances in local TV programs.
Meanwhile, aside from her hit “Manila”, Amber Davis continued to make a name in the local music industry through her other hits like “Radio” and “Back Into You” which I remember has stayed very long in the top spots of various music charts locally during its release. No wonder she was also recognized by different award-giving bodies for her music. Amber looks more “Hollywood-ish” for me, with a resemblance of Mandy Moore. In fact, she was a background vocalist for Hilary Duff and Kashiff, and this proves enough her hollywood appeal.

I got very much excited when I knew about this mash-up knowing that the two were very good at coming up with brand new sounds especially for Amber because she has came up with good covers (which sounded like her own brand new songs) for “Manila” and “Radio” (partly from Donna Summer’s song “On The Radio). “Neon Lights” and “Manila” combination makes me think of a more lively, modern and vibrant Manila.
And my expectations were met the moment I heard their mash-up. I totally liked it from start to end. I can’t say anything good enough for this particular mash-up but I will say this is one of my favorties, if not my favorite. There was a part that “Manila” went a little slow for “Neon Lights” but it didn’t matter. The blending of all sounds and vocals was very well-done! I hope they’ll have more collaborations in the future.
I recommend that you check out and never miss this mash-up. Check it out at: http://musicstudio.coca-cola.com.ph/index.php/videos/vid-1323154738933/videos.html
